Doom Infinite is a mod that turns Doom II into a roguelike FPS, with new gameplay, procedurally generated levels, progression system, and many other new features that change up the original game to offer a completely new experience.
Very easy to install
Running Doom Infinite is very simple. All you need is GZDoom installed on your PC and, inside the same folder, the Doom2.wad file. As most Doom players will know, this file is inside the base folder in the directory where you have Doom II installed. The best way to do it is to copy the Doom2.wad file and paste it directly into the GZDoom folder to avoid problems. After that, simply unzip the Doom Infinite .PK3 file in the same folder and drag it to the GZDoom executable. The game will launch after a few seconds.
Easy to learn, challenging to master
When you start playing Doom Infinite, you must first complete the tutorial. In just ten minutes, you will learn all the new concepts, of which there are many, introduced by the mod in this introductory level. For starters, from the weapons menu, you can check all the stats of each of the different weapons you pick up— damage, critical hit chance, rate of fire, type of ammunition, etc. It is important to note that, being a roguelike, Doom Infinite introduces several elements typical of this genre. The tutorial also teaches you how to use special powers and that not every battle is winnable. Sometimes, the best strategy is to flee.
Let the massacre begin
After completing the introductory mission, you will be up to date with what Doom Infinite brings and can start destroying demons. The most seasoned players will recognize some of Doom's legendary level layouts but with infinite variants. Starting from the base of some of the most popular levels, the mod procedurally generates new settings, so, as its name suggests, you can play a virtually infinite number of Doom levels, plagued by an endless horde of demons, which will appear where you least expect them. What's more, in Doom Infinite, you will not only find more weapons and special powers than in the original game, but you will also be able to modify and improve each of the game's weapons to make them even more devastating.
Doom forever
The Doom II modder community is undoubtedly one of the most dedicated and talented in the entire gaming landscape. That is why it is impossible to say that a given mod is "the definitive Doom mod". However, we can say with certainty that Doom Infinite allows you to continue enjoying the godfather of modern FPSs forever, offering a new experience each time while keeping the spirit and essence of the classic intact. This is a spectacular mod, thanks to which you can give id Software's masterpiece a new lease of life.
